Fire in Your Belly - and Your Muscles!

Fire up your health

As a Druid, I like to incorporate the native British way of healing in to my own wellness programme. This means that I usually work with the herbs, plants and trees that are native to the British Isles. However, a few years ago I discovered two ingredients that had me jumping for joy - literally. Neither of these ingredients are native to Britain, yet can actually be grown here. Each of these ingredients will feature in a new Vitality Balm called Eastern Fire by Norfolk Organics. The balm will help ease muscle discomfort and tension, promoting blood flow and the restoration of cells; great for sufferers of Fibromyalgia, inflammatory diseases and to treat the body post-sport.

One of these magical and rather mystical ingredients I speak about below.....

this particular period of the pagan calendar is when we awaken our hearth fires and step into the returning light once more. Spring has almost sprung and new life in the form of lambs are being born into the world. The old interpretation of Imbolc actually means ‘in the belly’ and refers to the pregnancy of ewes. I a Druid, for the past 21 years I’ve also been a professional holistic therapist and I’m principal of 2 therapy training schools. My repertoire covers a wide spectrum of complementary health areas, so for my first column I’m going to speak about fire - the ‘spice of fire’ –Turmeric! What exactly is it? What are its uses? How could it benefit YOU?

I first came across Turmeric as a colouring agent for my vegetarian dishes; rice, curry and other Eastern delights. I guess everyone has a small jar tucked away in the back of the cupboard, as this spice does give a certain exotic look to even the blandest of dishes.

It was only after my sojourn into Ayurveda, an Indian system of medicine that spans 5000 years, that I discovered that Turmeric could well be one of the most important foods on the planet.

I discovered that a small amount of turmeric every day could alleviate such conditions as alzheimers, certain cancers, heart attacks, strokes, inflammatory diseases, colds and flu’s, and skin complaints; the list is almost endless. I researched more - surely this yellow powder couldn’t do all that, but I found to my delight that it could, and so did the people who had agreed to trial my vitality balm - Eastern Fire.

The potent part of Turmeric is Curcumin, it is this that acts upon the body and ‘rights the wrongs’. I am not saying this miracle spice is a cure-all, if it was then therapists and medical professionals would be out of business, however it is certainly one food you should consider placing in your everyday diet, along with your 5 a day and other nutritional gastro-noms.

There is indeed a right and a wrong way to take Turmeric. I encourage you to do your own research and not just rush ahead and start taking it. I must give a gentle warning here, if you take certain medications as prescribed by your G.P, please check with them before taking Turmeric; it could have a detrimental effect if you are on blood thinning medication.

My husband is a convert to this simple spice and takes what he describes as ‘Fire Milk’, once every other day. He has arthritis in both his big toes, but since he started drinking Fire Milk 2 years ago, he’s been pain free and has more flexibility.

The key to the success of Fire Milk is to ensure you buy a good quality Turmeric, organic is paramount, because so much that is sold is actually cheaply cut with food colourants. You also need to take it with a fat or oil so that the gut absorbs it properly, as turmeric binds better with fat. You then need to add a few sprinkles of ground black pepper, as this ‘locks in’ the Curcumin. The fat my Husband uses is goats milk. Simply place a mug of milk in a saucepan on the stove and add a quarter of a teaspoon of turmeric, no more. Grind in some black pepper and gently warm the liquid and spices, do not boil. Then, add a good teaspoon of honey and organic ginger for flavour if desired. There it is, ready to drink – Fire health vitality milk!

To start with, twice a week is adequate, and like most things - give it a fair trial. Don’t think you’ll be skipping and jumping, free of all ill’s overnight. Equally, if you have any bad effects, stop taking it immediately.

Personally I cannot stomach this way so I made it easy for myself, and for you too - I developed a Vitality Pain Relief Salve that you simply apply directly to the muscles.

Amazing results had been experienced by over 25 people that tried my turmeric and ginger pain relief balm. I've names it Eastern Fire! It seemed appropriate to do so after it's heating effect it has upon the muscles! One particular client of mine was unable to lift his arms upwards because of the pain that radiated up his shoulders from the condition known as Fibromyalgia. After just 21 days of applying Eastern Fire, Arnie was able to not only lift his arms, but rotate his neck too, something which he'd been unable to do in years.

As I mentioned earlier, turmeric is used in Ayurveda. Ayurveda is a 5,000-year-old system of natural healing that has its origins in the Vedic culture of India. Tibetan medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine both have their roots in Ayurveda. Early Greek medicine also embraced many concepts originally described in the classical Ayurvedic medical texts dating back thousands of years. It is far more than a mere system of treating illness, Ayurveda is a science of life; Ayur = life, Veda = science or knowledge. It offers a body of wisdom designed to help people stay vital, while realizing their full human potential. Ayurveda reminds us that health is the balanced and dynamic integration between our environment, and our body, mind, and spirit. So as you can see, Turmeric has got a pretty good history and foundation, one that we cannot ignore.

Another client of mine had been taking Ibuprofen for joint pain after sports, which some days was very severe. She gave Eastern Fire a go, and in 9 months she hasn't had to take a single one anti-inflammatory pill. So, will you follow the ‘Yellow Brick Road’ and start using Eastern Fire? It'll be available soon via our brand new website

Eastern Fire is 100% organic and vegan!

As with all complementary or alternative health care systems, please consult your own Doctor or Specialist before embarking on a different route of therapy or healing.
